Swahili and English are the two official languages of Tanzania. Although not everybody speaks the second one, many people does, and English is perfectly valid and enough to get around the island and communicate to people. Due to the influence of visitors, Italian and Spanish are also becoming popular, to the point of being understood and spoken by many locals in the busy commercial areas of Stone Town and some specially popular tourist locations in the island, like Kiwengwa, Paje and Nungwi.
